Your Work Week Style Guide: an Outfit for Every Day

As a girl who sported a Catholic school uniform all her life, sometimes I can’t help but think to myself how much easier life would be if we were required to wear the same thing every day. But as much as I love a good pleated skirt and crisp, white polyester blouse, what fun would it be not being able to express your personal style day in and day out?

It’s Sunday night. Suddenly, your focus shifts from worrying about where to order takeout from and what Netflix show to binge, to the countless, unread emails sitting in your inbox. To top it off, you realize, Sh*t! I have a day full of meetings tomorrow. What am I going to wear? Sound familiar?

While I may not be able to help you organize your Gmail folders or prep you for that important status meeting, when it comes to keeping the workweek wardrobe scaries from looming, I have a few tricks up my sleeve.

Come Sunday, make sure all of your go-to weekday pieces are cleaned, steamed and back in their appropriate homes. IMO, nothing is worse than the mornings spent as “Hurricane Madeline” running around like a chicken with my head cut off because I didn’t take a few minutes to prep the night before.

Next, think about your week and what you have planned. What type of meetings lie ahead? Weather forecast? Do you have a post-work happy hour date? Reserve a part of your closet to hang your M-F looks.

Now it’s time to plan your looks out. Tired of overthinking your outfit every morning when that precious time could be spent catching a few extra Zzzs? To keep you from staring into your closet in despair before you’ve had a chance for AM coffee, I built a week’s worth of looks to sport in the office from Monday through Friday.

Now go ahead and set your alarm a little later, or hit that snooze button one more time.

1. Monday

You want to roll out of bed and go straight to the office in your pajamas…yep, sounds like Monday morning. But, you also want to start the week off on the right foot–so you must dress the part. Try a comfortable, cozy, and work-ready look instead. Together, baggy trousers, a half-tucked sweater, and slip on loafers (the second best thing to your slippers) boast a professional energy, yet they’re super low-maintenance and easy to throw on. Tip: add a dash of personal style with a neck scarf, or save yourself time and go monochrome–so easy to pull together, just look for like-minded hues and you are on your way!

Rebecca Vallance – Bella Ribbed Merino Wool-blend Turtleneck Sweater – Gray • Rebecca Vallance • $206
J.Crew – Cropped Crepe Tapered Pants – Black • J.Crew • $90
The Modern Loafer • Everlane • $168
Fefè printed neck-scarf • fe-fe • $45

2. Tuesday

Tuesday seems to be my most productive day of the week. It also can mean tons and tons of meetings. Anyone else with me? Dress for your day, and try a wrap midi skirt–a flattering classic that can be paired with everything from a t-shirt to a button down to booties and sneakers. Play around with layering and try a black turtleneck underneath your favorite white button-down or dress.

Nordstrom Signature Poplin Shirt • $133.33
Splendid – Supima Cotton And Modal-blend Turtleneck Sweater – Black • Splendid • $65
Eileen Fisher Stretch Jersey Faux-Wrap Skirt, Regular & Petite • Eileen Fisher • $148
Dolce Vita Mazey Studded Leather Booties • Dolce Vita • $144

3.  Wednesday

You may be halfway through the work week, but try and resist the urge to start slacking and dressing like a slob. As much as I hate to admit it, my productivity levels actually do go hand-in-hand with my outfit selections. Try a professional yet always-chic black jumpsuit and heeled booties look. Think your jumpsuit is reserved for wedding season? Think again. Give it a modern update by belting and slinging your go-to oversized blazer. More casual office? Try pairing your jumpsuit with a pair of white sneaks.

Mural Oversize Blazer • Mural • $75
Last Tango Belted Black Jumpsuit • $75
Isabel Marant Zap leather belt • Isabel Marant • $110
VEJA Women’s Esplar Leather Sneakers • Veja • $120

4.  Thursday

The end of the week is nearing! Stay comfy yet put-together with a pair of wide-legged trousers and top combo. You can never go wrong with a ruffled, striped number or a classic white t-shirt–which we all have in our closets. I love how a pair of fun heels keeps the trouser look from looking too frumpy, and you can easily transition from the office, to that end-of-the-week happy hour with co-workers!

Caroline Constas Mara Striped Blouse • Caroline Constas • $189
See by Chloé – Stretch-twill Wide-leg Pants – Black • See by Chloe • $325
Pointy Toe Heeled Leather Mules • $99.99
LA CARTELLA Work Bags • $140

5. Friday

They don’t call it casual Friday for nothing. I tend to play around with my closet pieces most on Fridays. Your feet really deserve a break after four, long days of traipsing around in heels or flats, so it’s time to pull out your comfiest sneakers. I’m really digging this sundress and sneakers combination topped off with a versatile, leather jacket.

The Fifth Label Poetic Stripe Sundress • The Fifth Label • $98
Short Sleeve Wool Turtleneck Sweater • Genuine People • $140
Blanc Noir Ryder Faux-Leather Moto Jacket with Stretch-Knit Inserts • Blanc Noir • $159
Adidas Swift Run Trainer Sneaker, Gray • adidas • $85
